Clean Up Method?

Okay, I don't know about you, but I have not perfected my clean up method and the nail polish around my cuticles is driving me insane! Usually my nails end up looking like this:

Do you see the polish pooling around the cuticles? Never mind that this magenta looks red on me, but the cuticles!!! So last night I was reading Getcha Nails Did and Brooke did a post about how she cleans up after her manicure. I think the cotton on the orange stick method is great, but I still have problems. Then she said something about not painting the whole nail, just getting as close to the sides and cuticles without touching them. A light went off in my head and I tried this with last nights manicure. Plus I added a little bootleg method of my own. Haha. Check it out:

Yes that is scotch tape! I didn't have any Vaseline to put around my cuticles, so I used tape and the orange stick method. My Zoya Barbie( a color I absolutely adore!) manicure turned out like this:

Okay, that's only slightly better, but now the space between my cuticles is too wide. One of these days I'm going to get it. I promise. Trial and error, trial and error.

  1. It's definitely something that takes patience and practice! Your manicure turned out great with your method. I've been using a little eyeliner brush dipped in acetone, but it's never perfect :/

  2. I think you did pretty good. Like Mary says, it is just something that takes practice to get perfect.

Also, I wonder if a little crisco would work in place of vaseline???

  3. Much nicer job than before. You should be proud of yourself. I use the orangewood and cotton method also. The problem is sometimes if you wrap too much cotton on you take off too much polish. So I can never win either. I think I'm going to have to try Mary's method of using a small brush dipped in remover. That's much thinner and also flexible. Check out her blog to see a picture of it, Bodyandsoul. Maybe you'll have more luck with that method. I also love that color on you. It's very pretty.

  5. Thanks Mary, I've been meaning to try out that brush method as well but I always forget when I'm in the store.

Brooke, now thats one thing thats always sitting in my cabinets is Crisco, it takes so long to use for me

Lucy, thats exactly what happens to me! I end up taking too much polish off and thats worse. Thanks!

  6. The clean-up method used to work my nerves too. I do the brush dipped in acetone and it is flawless now.
