China Glaze Vintage Vixen- Part One

Ready to take a trip back in time? I have the Vintage Vixen collection to show you and I'm really excited about it! This is the first of 3 posts because I separated the collection up into 4 colors a post. The Vintage Vixen collection is all about 40's era glamour. I really like the theme of this collection and I think there's something for every modern day "vixen" out there in this collection.

L to R: Hey Doll, Swing Baby, Jitterbug, First Class Ticket

Swing Baby is a personal favorite of mines. In some light it looks gold and in others it appears silver. Either way, I love it!

First Class Ticket, wherever you're going, that's where I want to be! Gorgeous deep purple with blue shimmer. I swear purples never cease to amaze me.

With the Vintage Vixen collection, you can rethink what you though about frosts. I know I did! Three of these pretty polishes are categorized as frosts by China Glaze. They may not dry as glossy as cremes but they make up for it in sparkle.  I wonder if the Vintage Vixens of the 40s would have actually worn these colors? The name fits each polish so well, I started daydreaming while swatching these. Well, back to the future! But remember, we've got two more Vintage Vixen posts to go, so see you soon! :-)

Zoya Wonderful-Kristi, Cola & Shawn

First, sorry for the three finger pictures! My index finger on left hand broke! I hate it when my nails are not even, but I really cant bear to part with the length of my nails. Plus, my hands have really been doing intensive work with paper lately, so I need to pay extra care & attention to them to make sure the rest of  them don't break off!

With that being said, I have the 2nd half of Zoya's Wonderful collection to show you! Moving right along we have Kristi, a true crimson red creme.

I knew a lady named Kristi and this color is so her. She made me smile at work and she was pretty funny.

Cola is a red-brown creme and reminds me of the fizzy drink too!. This color is unique to my stash, but it doesn't look the greatest on me. I imagine there is someone who this color would look fabulous on, but that someone isn't me.

Saving the notorious green for last, here is Shawn. A green creme so perfect for fall, it would seem out of place anywhere other than the Wonderful collection. A little streak for me on the first coast, but it evens itself right out on the second coat.

All of the swatches seen here are two coats with no topcoat. I told you there were glossy! Both the Wicked and Wonderful sets can be purchased online at www.zoya.com.

Zoya Wonderful-Kelly, Stacy & Burke

Zoya's Wonderful is a collection of six cremes and I have half of them for you today! Ready for these fall colors? Let me show you my favorite of the Wonderful collection first.

Kelly is a gray creme that looks purple in some light. I wore this one for 3 days I think. I like that this is not too dark or too light. I vote this best of the Wonderful collection. You need this one!

Stacy is a vampy berry red creme. Not my favorite, but I know there are people who go for this type of thing. Hey, if you like it, I love it.

Burke is another classic red creme. For all you red lovers, consider yourself lucky. Zoya is really giving it to you with the Wonderful collection!

What I loved about these cremes its that all of them were so opaque and glossy. What you see in these pictures is two coats of polish with no topcoat cause Zoya's cool like that. I have 3 more polishes in the Wonderful collection to show you, stay tuned...

Zoya Fall 2010 Wicked Collection

This past weekend in North Texas we had our first 100 degree weather day of the summer! Let me tell you, the word hot was an understatement. However, Zoya's Wicked collection had me longing for Fall and cooler temperatures when I opened the box to see these delicious autumn colors. The Wicked Collection is a set of 6 sparkling metallic shades that Zoya delivers on once again.

Starting off with an unlikely contender for my 2nd favorite polish of the collection, Karina:

Yup, I said a red was my 2nd favorite polish of the whole collection. The heat must be getting to me! Karina is deep, sparkling red that is actually flattering on my skin tone. Most reds scare me off because they are either too bright or too vampy and "age" my hands. However, Karina is vibrant and I can see myself wearing this come fall.

You cant go wrong with a purple polish in my opinon. Julieane is the perfect shade of purple for fall with its dark purple base and golden shimmer.

Cheryl is bronze chocolatey goodness! This shade is the epitome of Fall and reminds me of leaves on the ground.

Carrie Ann is a red if I ever saw one. The most intense red of the whole collection, Carrie Anne holds no punches. Its like a ripe apple which is also synonymous with fall.

I have two aunts both named Kim and I bet this is a color they would wear. Kym is a mauve that has a perfect place in the Wicked Collection.

Zoya sure is wicked for making me love yet another green. As if Ivanka wasn't enough from the Sparkle collection, they've hit us yet again with yet another sparkling green that gets my vote for favorite polish of the collection. Edyta is a dazzling olive green (that looks gray in some light) with golden shimmer and a must have for Fall!

All swatches shown here are two coats with a top coat. They dry fairly quickly but I believe metallic polishes dry quicker than say, creme polishes anyway. I had no issues with application and of course just like the Sparkle collection these are easy to remove with regular old nail polish remover.

The Wicked collection can be ordered online on their website but I have also seen Zoya polishes at my local Whole Foods grocery store. If you don't want to order online or want the instant gratification of these beauties in you hands, its worth a try to call or check with Whole Foods if there's one close to you.

Finger Paints Blissfully Blue

Do you notice anything different about this manicure? Well do ya? Hmm, wait for it...
Its my first successful "Konadicure"! Well fuax Konad. I ordered those knock off plates from Ebay last summer and after a few unsuccessful attempts put them away and never touched them again. Well, I found them again this summer and decided to give it ago. I'm glad I did because I finally got the hang of it and now I want more image plates. The plates that I have now are all images of various types of flowers. BORING! I guess that what you get when you order random plates from Ebay. Its okay though because I've got my eye on those Bundle Monster plates on Amazon...

(Yes I know my nail shape is absolutely dreadful. Its that nail file I'm telling ya!)

As far as the actual polish is concerned, it is a really pretty pale blue, but was hard to work with. Thick and difficult just like a white polish. I did the stamp with NYC Skin Tight Denim.

Orly Ole + Nail File Help!

This is actually a manicure I did last week, so while editing the pictures I noticed how weirdly shaped my nails were! I am officially on the search for the perfect nail file. My nails have not been shaped the way I want them for the longest time. The offending file I used on my nails was a file from Ms.Manicure and boy did it do a number on my nails. It left the tips of my nails so fringy, they looked liked they had on western wear. I swear, it was awful. So if you're reading this is and you have any suggestions on nail files, please let me know! On to the polish shall we?

Orly Ole, a coral creme, is a part of the Viva Summer 2010 collection. I also have La Playa from the collection which I used for my 4th of July manicure but intend on using for a full manicure in the fall for sure.

"Interview" Nails

Well, I planned on wearing this to my interview today (which is a job I really want by the way), but the "polish" in the Nailene french tip pen I used chipped so badly by the second day of wear that this manicure didn't even get to see the interview. Instead I'm wearing Zoya Barbie, a calm, cool and collected pink that is work place friendly. Wish me luck!

Dermelect Launchpad Nail Strengthener Review

After using Launchpad for a little over two weeks, its safe to say I like and would recommend this product to try for anyone seeking stronger nails. At the age of 22, I'm sure I'm not the target audience for a product that promises to "unlock your nails potential to reverse the visible signs of aging but healthy, strong nails are desirable at any age. Dermelect's Launchpad Nail Strengthener has a formula that "provides a unique delivery system of protein peptides directly to the nail bed to encourage stubborn nails to grow while improving their strength." I was excited to try Launchpad because I am currently going through my wanting long nails phase. (I'm a bit fickle when it comes to nail length; I'll cut or file my nail growth on a whim.) Using it as a base coat under my manicures, I've noticed my nails do feel a little stronger, less flexible. By less flexible, I mean less prone to bending and breaking or splitting. Granted this weekend, I did chip away a small part of my thumbnail doing some heavy lifting and pushing around the house. However, Launchapd never promised to make my nails indestructible. With the normal amount of wear and tear on my nails, I believe this base coat did deliver on its promises to strengthen my nails. Another thing worth mentioning was that I did like how this product didn't smell as harsh or chemical like as some polishes I use. Also, the light green color is pleasing to the eye. Dermelect describes this base coat as fast drying but I have to disagree. I may be irreversibly spoiled by all the fast drying polishes/top coats out there, but when I do my nails I expect my base coat to be dry about a minute after I finish painting all ten nails and ready for a fresh coat of polish.

You can find out more about Dermelect products here.

Zoya Ali + Nail Art

Zoya's Ali is one of my top 3 favorite pink nail polishes. Yes, that does mean something coming from a pink obsessed blogger, I promise! Ali is an instant pick up, so this past week when I was feeling sad I decided to do my nails in this bright, cheery color. Its been uncharacteristically cloudy and rainy in Texas, but you can see this neon pink a mile away. As if that wasn't enough, I got my Art Deco polishes and dotting tool and went to work. I ended up with this:

Cover Girl Giveaway Winner Announced

With the blog being moved, somehow all the comments I had with IntenseDebate are all lost on the old posts. However IntenseDebate sends e-mail notifications to me, so I was able to find the comments that way. I put all the entries onto paper and had my mother fold and shuffle them in a bowl. I randomly selected a paper out of the bowl with my eyes closed! The winner of the Wal-Mart Gift Card is:

Vanessa

I will be e-mailing the winner at the e-mail address she provided. She has 24 hours to respond or another winner will be selected.

A big thanks to Blog Spark and Cover Girl for providing the gift card!

4th of July Nails 2010

I love the 4th of July, its my favorite holiday. I think the barbecue has a lot to do with it! Its also the one time of year I actively search for a red nail polish to use. This year I was stumped for ideas until the last minute, but a little trip to Sally's changed that. They are having a fabulous clearance sale and I picked up a perfect blue, Orly La Playa from their Viva 2010 Summer Collection. La Playa is a opaque gorgeous navy blue creme, what you see in the pictures is one coat. On my middle and pinky fingers I did one coat each of Wet n Wild French White Creme, OPI Himalayan Hideaway and Orly La Playa. The stripes I did with my Art Deco polish in silver. The stars on my ring finger are by Nailene, who might I mention make great nail stickers!

What did you do for the 4th of July? Got any festive manicures you want to share?

Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast-Onyx Smoke

This is the last part of my Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast mini series and I saved my favorite , Glamorous, for last. This shadow combo I used today is Onyx Smoke. The lid color is a pearly, silver color and the crease color is silver. I used my own ELF liquid liner in black and one coat of Cover Girl Lash Blast Volumizing mascara in Very Black.

I like this look a lot and I've enjoyed experimenting with the Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blasts this week. After testing out Cover Girl Products, I've come up with a list of pros and cons.

Pros:
  • Very ease to use
  • Convenient
  • Inexpensive
  • Volumizing mascara is definitely a winner
  • Liquid liner is smudge-proof and long lasting
Cons:
  • Eyeshadow creases/fades very quickly
  • No staying power especially for oily skin
So are you going to try out Smoky Shadow Blast eyeshadows? Not interested? Let me know!
